Fern Gully

In 1992 a movie came out called Fern Gully. It was a story about the destruction of a rainforest in Australia. My kids loved it back then, it was on constant rewind. This clip features Robin Williams as Batty. Very funny.

But the story is very true about the destruction done by mankind. It had been done for a long time before the movie and continues to this day. We find it hard to live in peace and harmony with nature. One may say it is never to late to do something right, but I am afraid the point of no return is fast approaching,

Add Olivia Newton John To My List!

Olivia Newton John seems to have been around forever. She burst on to the scene world wide as Sandy in the movie Grease. She stopped the show in that skin tight leather outfit.

Fast forward to the present, I think she is more beautiful than ever in her early sixties. I think I am blessed that I love older women, not because I am older, nope, I have always thought like this.

However, not to disappoint, here she is in Grease!

Snow Birds Come On Down And Bring Your Money!

It is well known that in retail in south Florida, we count on the influx of tourist dollars and our lovable snow birds,(people who escape the cold winter months), who rent or have winter homes down here.

The economy of Florida counts on them for the growth spurt of sales and income throughout the state.  With the rift in the economy and unemployment at an all time high, their effect in the coming months will be even more important.

But there are some drawbacks. The cost of having fun goes up. Golf fees double, I like to golf, so that is a problem. Pretty much all leisure activity costs go up. The locals take it in stride, our turn will come.

The weather is in a prime time of the year, a balance of warmth and lower humidity, making it quite pleasant and one is avoiding the cold up north.

We have been fortunate not to have had any hurricanes the last five years, a major plus as a homeowner, not as a retailer.

So we wait. The snowbirds start coming at the end of the month, leaving again in April. We welcome you with open arms.

Just bring lots of money!

Mel Blanc Remembered

I found this nice picture of some of the characters remembering the man who gave them the voices that we know and love to this very day, indeed forever.

Tough Football Players Today Don't Compare To Dick Butkus

I hear that guy is tough or man what a hit or the best in the game, but let me tell you Dick Butkus was feared by all teams on every play of every game.  Who ever played the Bears, win or lose, limped out of town every week.  The following clip will give you just a hint of how good he was.

I Must Of Been Something Back In The Day?

I was feeling in a good mood at work, a silly mood, and I went up to one of the cashiers who was waiting for a customer to come up and check out and I started to sing to her and dance a little. She started to smile at me and said, "You must have been something back in the day".  I looked at her, thanked her and then thought, WTF, what about now?  And then I just hobbled away, sigh, double sigh.......old man.......

Sometimes I Feel Like I Am Lost In A Time Warp

So You Think We Can Save The World?

Let's look at reality. The planet has been here for eons, it will be here for eons more.

It is the people that will be extinct over time.  Everything that happens to the planet  will be healed.

Radioactive waste, 1/2 life of a thousand years. Nothing compared to millions of years.

Volcanos,  tsunamis,  earthquakes, all trivial in the sands of time. Rising sea levels, destructive to mankind, not to the planet.

Man now has the power to kill all on the planet and probably will.  One way or another. We will strip mine, oil well, gouge, crunch rip all we can from the air and ground until there is no more. And look for more.
Then one day wonder what happened. We will go away. The planet doesn't care. We will be replaced, by a higher form of intelligent life, like maybe plants and trees.

The cycle will be repeated. The hope of space travel is to colonize other planets and let loose our destructive powers throughout the universe. We will fail.

We search for other intelligent life. Other? We have yet to prove we are intelligent so there is nothing to compare our selves to anyone or anything that might be out there. A somber thought for the day.

The planet will cleanse itself of us. Someday it will die. But in the meantime we will go away first, like unwelcome party guests, we will be shown the door.

Has it been over a year since Rock Band, The Beatles came out? If you know your stuff, the posters and signs are from different albums and songs, plus a mini history of the group.

Flashdance-Maniac

Jennifer Beals. She is still beautiful today. Trust me on this, many young men were in love with her. The sweatshirt style was all the rage, including the warm up leggings. I do think running in place could be an Olympic sport.

Looking For Mr. Right? How About Mr. Sometimes Right?

With all the dating sites springing up on the web and seemingly millions of people searching, there must be a lot of lonely people out there. Searching, hoping to land the hottie of their own. Men and women alike ignoring the almost perfect people around them.

I wonder why. I know of some that find someone and break up and go looking for the same sort of person they just left.  Silly right? One definition of insanity is to the same thing over and over and expect different results. But it happens.

Not tall enough, not smart enough, not enough money, too quiet, to loud, doesn't have them abs, wants kids, doesn't want kids, and so on.

No compromises.  Time marches on and the saying goes "All the good ones are married". Someone you know has said that in passing and wonders if they will grow old alone.

Many were overlooked because they were more frog-like then prince-like. They didn't fit the want list.

Now, this day may never come, but if it did this is what my ad would look like:

We Will Be back In Just A Moment.......

Never, ever, forget it's all about the money. The world's best movie, TV show, radio, plays, newspapers. all brought to you to make a buck, a dollar, money, money, money.  Bloggers know all this is free because it is used to make money, gobs of it.

They call it show business. Fill the seats, get them eyeballs, get them to buy. Anything.
And we will.

But there is a catch. The older you get there is less influence on you to buy. You have been down this road before. Different products point to different age groups. But it all ends by the time you reach fifty.

The Mad Men don't want you anymore.  If old people watch a show, they will cancel it. Movies are not made for you. Radio shows don't matter. Newspapers are going away. Passe.

Boomers, your influence is over.

Unless it is stuff for old people.

A Little Bit More Of All That Jazz

I had to revisit this memorable movie one more time. Love this scene!
Happy weekend all!

The Speed Of My Youth

No, I am not quite that old yet as pictured, but there are days I feel like that. Someone at worked asked me what I miss the most, what I wish I had back, and without thinking I said "The speed of my youth". When it felt like I could run for ever, play any sport, try anything and do reasonably well, without hesitation. Play hard, recover, and do it again. Not worrying about pulled muscles, huffing and puffing, will I make it in to work, might get hurt, and so on.

My car trunk when I got older had equipment for all sports in it. Tennis, check. Golf, check. baseball, check. Basketball, check. Hockey, check. football, check. Squash, check. And so on. Never a worry, never a care.

Yes, I know, there are many out there doing it all at my age and beyond, but sometimes you have to pick and choose what is best for you.

And yet it seems not that long ago, a different time when I was young....

All That Jazz

A great movie, it starts off of course with the audition, a cattle call of dancers. Auditions are tough,
Watch for the guy who can't dance. Ever have days like that? Great music, great dancing Bob Fosse style.
If you haven't seen this movie, please do. It should be high up on your list! And 5,6,7,8

Your Blog Has How Many Followers?

Some blogs I visit have 30-40 followers, some have 100, or 400, or 1,000 and counting. I currently have eleven. Some come , some go, the ones that stay do stop by and comment. When I visit the other blogs, a handful of people stop by, the same it seems, to make their comments and move on. Some of the blog writers have sexy subjects or are sexy themselves. Most are very good writers. Each has a nice style, easy to read.

What draws people to you? It is one friend tells a friend and so on, and so on, and so on. With a blog roll. When you are bored, let's see what else is going on.

And then there is me. One blog I have has a decent visitor count, but what is gratifying is if and when someone stops by, they stay for awhile, reading on average 3 or 4 posts. One blog I have, poetry, makes the sounds of crickets in the night. But the poetry I write is to share my thoughts and feelings on a particular matter and is quite a mental release for me and that alone makes me feel good. A third blog I have is a blog commentary on some golf courses that I get to play on and my thoughts on the course from the eyes of a very average golfer.

To be honest, not having a lot of followers used to bother me, however, no longer do I have blogger follower envy.

I have put out over 400 posts, a mix of music, commentary, funny stuff, poetry and whatever comes to mind.

I hope to do this for a long time. I hope you enjoy your stay. Comments are always welcome, but most of all come on back,

followers optional!

Planning The Trip Of Your Life

People will take the time to plan a vacation down to the smallest detail. See this, see that, what to do on day one and two and so on.

Guide books to point out the sights, the costs and what times the venue is open and what time it closes.

Good places to eat, shows to see. Are there friends in the area? Yep, very precise and accurate plans all centered around a vacation.

The anticipation of the trip, the rush to go and of course the long ride home, tired but glad it is over.

Businesses used to have a five year plan on bringing a product to market. Those lines seem blurred now as competition forces a hurry up attitude to be first to market. Competition will do that.

But people, oh my. Like a silver ball on a pinball machine off to here, off to there, off to there, with nary a thought on what one wants in life or what  goals are worth achieving. What do you want to be when you grow up?  When you were little that answer was easy. A cowboy, an astronaut, a model, a rock star. But as you got older dreams began to fade. One reads about sport stars doing what they wanted to do, or a movie actress saying they are doing what they dreamed about doing.

Most people drift about from job to job. Is the career you are employed in now what you really want to be doing the rest of your life. I don't think so. But, but I don't know anything else! People cry out those words. You stumbled into this job, stumble into another. But it pays the bills, you mumble.

What would you do if money was unimportant? Where do you plan on being in 5 years? Ten? People don't make the effort and end up in a position that makes them miserable and the people around them the same.

But they won't leave unless they are asked to go. It is a big scary world out there and few want you to succeed in life. Misery loves company.

Prove them wrong. Take a stand. Show them you can succeed. Show them you are different. Your footprints do matter. Your thoughts, ideas, are special. Use them, don't waste them, silence the naysayers.
They never erected a statue to a critic. Never will.

You are special. Prove it. Plan to win at life, plan your trip of life.

Crazy

Everyone has heard the song, but who had seen Gnarls Barkley live? Me neither. I certainly hope we hear from him again. A big man, much like Meatloaf. The crowd is really into this song.

So Smooth

Where was I when they did this video? Latin Mona Lisa indeed. Slim, sexy dancers to go along with the powerful playing of Carlos Santana and Rob Thomas singing this song was perfect. From 199? Time is flying. Tempus Fugit indeed!

So We are Done In Iraq? Yea Right, Sure, Uh Huh....

No , we are not. We will have forces and bases there forever. We ended fighting in Korea fifty plus years ago, still there, Vietnam, yep, Cuba, yep. Bases in Saudi Arabia, yep.

We are like the relative that comes to visit and forgets to leave. We are not the worlds policeman. We are squatters. Unwelcome. Powerful, but not always. Military might, but many weaknesses. We always fight new wars with old tactics. We do not observe history and learn from it.

But there is more to it. Iraq was about oil. Afghanistan is about a trillion dollars worth of resources. War is about billions of dollars of military spending. War is about depleting the national surpluses and treasures.  We will always be at war somewhere. For whatever reason. We live in an Orwelian society with lies and fabrications so much a part of our lives that we have a tendency to ignore or fail to seek out and understand WTF is going on.

How much longer before we are back in Korea? Iran? We plunder and pillage in the name of democracy,
The Taliban will be around forever. We need them to justify what we do.

Sad but true.

20th Century Boy

Some years back, I was watching a football game and a commercial came on for Mazda. This song was playing in it and I needed to know who was playing. One of my daughters found out for me. I am not sure if I had heard it before. T-Rex had another hit, "Get It On, Bang A Gong", but this one quickened the pulse. Years later, brushing through the cobwebs of my mind, lots of dust bunnies too, I found it again.
